Assembly Programs

Bring your whole school together to experience a high-energy science adventure with our superhero scientists: Captain Current or Ion Jones. Join them on an adventure through the exciting and sometimes explosive side of science learning. Choose to watch an interactive assembly show, do hands-on walk-up activities, or both for a full day of STEAM learning.

Captain Current VS. The Electricity Vampires

Introduces students to concepts of energy and energy efficiency. Learn about sources of energy, how energy is generated, and how to become better ambassadors of energy conservation. Students will discover how circuits work, generate electricity by pedaling a bike, and learn about concepts of energy efficiency.

In this high-voltage electricity program, Captain Current (the museum’s resident superhero), teaches students about how electricity is generated and recruits them to become Energy Saving Cadets. After this electrifying assembly, students can engage with ten hands-on activity stations. Students discover how circuits work, ride Captain Current’s energy bike, and learn just how much effort goes into turning on a light bulb.

Ion Jones and the Lost Castle of Chemistry

Introduces students to the basics of chemical reactions and how chemistry impacts industry, the environment, and our everyday lives. From a density activity illustrating why objects sink or float, to a chromatography activity allowing to tease apart colors as chemists do in labs, each station reinforces how chemistry impacts industry, the environment, and our everyday lives.

When Ion Jones visits your school, your students join the adventure as Ion discovers elements, demonstrates chemical reactions, and breaks down chemistry for your students. This is not your standard assembly program: audience participation is a must, and the fun doesn’t stop after show! Ion brings ten hands-on activity stations, each designed to show the ways in which chemistry pervades all aspects of life and just how many careers include chemistry. With the help of volunteer facilitators, students use forensic science to solve a mystery, use pH testing to figure out which of four identical liquids is safe to drink, and hold a dry ice cloud in their hands.
