FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 22, 2026, Louisville, KY — When school is out, Science Camp is in at the Kentucky Science Center. Beginning Sept. 23, Kentucky Science Center will offer single-day and week-long camp experiences throughout the 2026–27 school year, giving students opportunities to explore science through hands-on activities, experiments, exhibits, movies and more.

The single day camps are designed for students in PreK through fifth grade, with age-appropriate themes and activities that encourage campers to play, tinker, investigate and explore the world around them. Camps also provide opportunities for children to build social skills, make new friends and develop confidence and resilience while engaging with science.

The first single-day camp, Jurassic Adventures, takes place Wednesday, Sept. 23, for campers in PreK through fifth grade. During Fall Break, Sept. 28 through Oct. 2, campers can choose from three science-filled themes based on their grade level:

PreK–K: Not So Scary Science — Campers are invited to conduct eerie experiments and discover the science behind some spooky phenomena.

K–2: Monster Makers — Campers use science to investigate what makes monsters smell, stomp and growl.

Grades 3–5: Weird Science — Campers explore creepy crawlers, genetic mutations and alien life while discovering that scientific fact can be stranger than science fiction.

Each Science Camp day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with drop-off between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., programming from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and pick-up from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Campers experience a variety of activities throughout the day, including exhibit exploration, interactive science demonstrations, hands-on experiments and educational movies in Kentucky Science Center’s four-story digital theater. Camp content is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, and each camper receives a Science Camp T-shirt.

Science Camp maintains a 10-to-1 camper-to-staff ratio and is staffed by professional teachers and college education students. Kentucky Science Center also provides streamlined registration and secure drop-off and pick-up procedures to make the camp experience easier for families.

Optional aftercare is available daily from 4:30 to 5 p.m. for an additional fee. Aftercare is a relaxed, childcare-only option and does not include science programming. Capacity is limited.

Additional single-day Science Camp experiences will be offered throughout the school year during school holidays and breaks, providing families with flexible options for keeping children engaged when classes aren’t in session.

The event is presented in partnership with WFPK and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Released in 1980, 9 to 5 follows three working women who band together to turn the tables on their sexist and egotistical boss. The film became a cultural touchstone, with Parton making her feature-film debut and earning an Academy Award nomination for the film’s iconic title song.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, July 31, 2026: TAYLOR COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY OPENS KENTUCKY SCIENCE CENTER’S SCIENCE IN PLAY2GO EXHIBIT

Kentucky Science Center is bringing its hands-on early childhood experience to another Kentucky library. TAYLOR COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY OPENS KENTUCKY SCIENCE CENTER’S SCIENCE IN PLAY2GO EXHIBIT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY, July 31, 2026 – Kentucky Science Center is bringing its hands-on early childhood experience to another Kentucky library. Science in Play2Go, a miniature version of Kentucky Science Center’s signature Science in Play exhibit designed to travel around the state, will open at the Taylor County Public Library on August 8, 2026.

Designed specifically for children ages 8 and under, Science in Play2Go is built around the twin concepts of open-ended play and “loose parts” – materials that can be reimagined in countless ways – that allow children to naturally develop 21st century learning and STEAM skills. The elements of the exhibit present in Taylor County – including engineering with big blocks in Build Your World and visiting the Shapes and Stuff Store – encourage open-ended thought, collaboration, and creativity. These fundamental skills provide a crucial foundation for future learning.

Science in Play2Go is presented by Lift a Life Novak Family Foundation and the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives (KDLA).

Science in Play2Go’s impact is clear. Ongoing surveys of the travelling exhibit show that an average of 89% of parents and caregivers report “feeling more confident in my ability to nurture my child’s science learning” after visiting Science in Play2Go; 94% believe that Science in Play2Go helps them “think of new ways to encourage learning at home”; and 96% report it helps them “extend learning by asking my child questions and encourage new skills.”

In its years of operation, Science in Play2Go welcomed almost 250,000 visitors with residencies in 32 Kentucky counties. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many county libraries were closed to the public, Science in Play2Go transitioned into Kentucky malls, with locations in Louisville’s Mall St. Matthews and Bowling Green’s Greenwood Mall. The travelling exhibit returned to public libraries in early 2022.

The travelling exhibit is open to the community during normal library hours. Field trips and group visits to Science in Play2Go are encouraged; groups, including schools and local community centers, may contact the library directly to arrange a visit. Science in Play2Go is designed to serve as a resource to the community, providing at-home activities for parents and caregivers to do science with children and tools to help facilitate early-childhood learning.

Taylor County Public Library is located at 725 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Campbellsville, KY. The library’s Science in Play2Go experience is available to the public from August 8 through December 5. For more information, please visit the Taylor County Public Library or call (270) 465-2562.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: Feb. 19, 2026

SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY — Kentucky Science Center today announced the 2026 launch of Science in Play2Go powered by PNC Grow Up Great®, a traveling exhibit currently featured at the Bullitt County Public Library. This hands-on early childhood experience, which is free and open to the public, is made possible by a $90,000 grant from the PNC Foundation through PNC Grow Up Great, a $500 million bilingual initiative designed to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life.

Since its 2021 launch, Science in Play2Go powered by PNC Grow Up Great has welcomed over 250,000 visitors throughout Kentucky. This mobile version of Kentucky Science Center’s progressive next generation learning experience, Science in Play, features open-ended play and “loose parts” that help children build STEAM skills through imaginative exploration.

“As a longtime champion for high-quality early childhood education, PNC collaborated with Kentucky Science Center to create this unique experience, which empowers young children and their caregivers to learn together through the power of play,” said Kristen Byrd, PNC regional president for Kentucky. “Experiences like this can spark an early love for learning and help children build confidence and curiosity. All of us at PNC look forward to seeing the joy and discovery this exhibit continues to bring to young minds.”

Early childhood educators and families have seen positive impact from the program, with surveys showing that 94% of parents believe Science in Play2Go powered by PNC Grow Up Great helps them “think of new ways to encourage learning at home.”

The exhibit at Bullitt County is filled with engaging, collaborative stations, from building with large blocks in Build Your World to exploring shapes and creative materials at the Shapes and Stuff Store, all crafted to support early learners as they experiment, create and wonder together.

“Science in Play2Go powered by PNC Grow Up Great is a wonderful opportunity for children and families to explore, create and learn together in a fun, hands-on way,” said Tara O’Hagan, executive director of the Bullitt County Public Library. “We are thrilled to host this exhibit at our Central Library and can’t wait to see the excitement it brings to our community’s youngest learners.”

Science in Play2Go powered by PNC Grow Up Great is made possible by a grant from the PNC Foundation, the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) and The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). It opened at the Bullitt County Public Library’s Central location Feb. 14, 2026, and runs through May 30, 2026.

The exhibit is free to the public during normal library hours. Local schools, childcare providers and groups are encouraged to arrange visits by contacting the library.

Additional destinations for Science in Play2Go powered by PNC Grow Up Great will be announced in the coming months.
