Let’s make every second count so ring in the new year a little early with a celebration on New Year’s Eve that’s perfectly timed for families! We’ll discover the science behind how we tell time through engaging hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, shows and demonstrations. Join us as we welcome the new year with discovery and science.
Noon Year’s celebration activities run from 10AM–2PM unless otherwise noted below, but the Science Center is open from 9:30AM-5PM:
- Storytime: A Second Is a Hiccup – Gather at 10:30AM in the 1st floor Science in Play Mirror Maze area for Hazel Hutchins’ delightful tale.
- Countdown to Noon Demonstration, visible from every floor in the Atrium – From 11:45AM–12PM, enjoy a large-scale chemistry experiment that showcase the science of timekeeping.
- Music & Timekeeping Show – At 1:30PM in the 2nd floor Tech Forum, discover how sound and rhythm reveal the importance of keeping time in this lively show.
- MakerPlace STEAM Activities – Kick off the new year with hands-on projects that spark creativity and innovation.
- Gallery Highlights – Explore additional interactive activities scattered throughout the galleries.
- Self-Guided “Time That Experiment” – In Science in Play, test your timing skills by racing cars down ramps of varying slopes while investigating how experiments measure time.
