Bowling Green families will have the chance to imagine, build and play with Kentucky Science Center without ever having to leave South Central Kentucky. Kentucky Science Center’s new Science In Play 2Go experience will open Oct. 28, at Greenwood Mall, located at 2625 Scottsville Rd., and is designed to empower children and families to learn together by using fun, hands-on activities and encouraging the simple principle of play.
The pop-up Science in Play 2Go mall location, powered by PNC Grow Up Great® and part of a $150,000 grant from the PNC Foundation, will be at Greenwood Mall through January. For $5 per child (free for adults and members), guests can explore this mobile version of Kentucky Science Center’s early-childhood learning experience Science in Play. Visitors can explore the exhibit’s interactive spaces and enjoy a great selection of educational STEAM activities. These include a jumbo LiteBrite, Build Your Own Roller Coaster, and the Shapes and Stuff store. Each hands-on exhibit encourages open-ended thought, collaboration and creativity – fundamental skills that best prepare children to face the challenges and seize the opportunities of the 21st century.
“Kentucky Science Center has seen great success with our Mall St. Matthew Science in Play 2Go exhibit in Louisville,” says Science Center Chief Executive Officer Mike Norman. “We’ve discovered that we can’t go wrong when we meet families where they are with accessible and hands-on science content. Our new Greenwood Mall location gives us the chance to expand that model, reaching families who might not have the chance to make the trip to Louisville to see our flagship location.”
The Science in Play 2Go experience and its focus on early-childhood science and math learning through the lens of play was a natural fit for PNC, which has a long history of supporting early learning initiatives for children from birth through age 5.
“PNC understands how critical high-quality early childhood education is to ensuring the growth of our community and ultimately, the Kentucky economy,” said Chuck Denny, PNC regional president for Louisville. “Few things are more important than making high-quality early childhood learning experiences accessible to our entire community. That’s why we support Science in Play 2Go being there for our youngest learners and their families in Bowling Green.”
In celebration of the grand opening of Science in Play 2Go, Kentucky Science Center invites visitors to come and play with us free of charge at Greenwood Mall from Thursday, October 28 through Sunday, October 31. Advance registration is required. Visit kysci.org/visit and use code SIPBG to secure your spot.
Kentucky Science Center’s Science in Play 2Go location can be found across from Cinnabon near Belk. Hours for Science in Play 2Go will be Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from noon until 6 p.m.
