Dr. Young Hoon Kim, an associate professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Louisville, focuses on developing innovative materials and systems for civil infrastructure and space missions. He obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Korea University before earning a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. With extensive post-doctoral experience from the Texas Transportation Institute and Oregon State University, Dr. Kim’s research centers on concrete design and structural performance assessment. He serves as an editorial board member for ASTM International – the Journal of Testing and Evaluation and Applied Sciences (MDPI). Concurrently, Dr. Kim advises the University of Louisville’s Engineers without Borders chapter.
In 2014, Kara Leeds graduated from the University of Louisville’s Speed School of Engineering with a master’s degree in industrial engineering, focused on additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies. During her time at UofL, Kara participated in and helped establish the River City Rocketry team to compete in NASA’s University Student Launch Initiative. The team worked with NASA engineers from Huntsville’s Marshall Spaceflight Center to design, build, and launch high powered rockets carrying scientific payloads. Upon graduation, Kara moved to Izmir, Turkey to work at Space Camp Turkey (one of only two official Space Camps in the world) as an international programs educator. Kara’s passion for all things related to space exploration led her to teaching thousands of students from all over the world about space science, training students on real astronaut simulators, as well as meeting many astronauts. Currently, Kara is back in Louisville, KY working as a manufacturing engineer and pursuing her passion in the field of manufacturing.
Dr. Jeremy Wood is an astrophysicist working in asteroid detection for the International Astronomical Search Collaboration and as a professor in the space studies program at American Military University. You can also find him teaching for the Kentucky Community & Technical College System.
Dr. Wood’s research is in dynamics of small solar system bodies. He has been involved in writing seven professional scientific papers and one textbook on dynamics of small solar system bodies.
He originally hails from Washington, Indiana and has degrees from the University of Evansville, the University of Tennessee, Swinburne University of Technology, and the University of Southern Queensland. He has been teaching at the college level for 30 years.
