Scientific Proofs

“Scientific Proofs” is a monthly gathering for grownups who like to geek out on science. Each month we have conversations about interesting, sometimes hot-button, science topics led by area scientists, leaders, and professionals. Held at Mellow Mushroom St. Matthews every month. All events are FREE… minus the food and drinks!

Hurricanes in My Old Kentucky Home?

Kentucky is a landlocked state and tropical cyclones form almost exclusively over tropical seas, but even so, hurricanes can bring significant weather patterns to our region. This Scientific Proofs, led by UofL’s Dr. Jason Naylor, will provide a general overview of the formation and structure of tropical cyclones and discuss some of the past storms that have impacted Kentucky weather. We’ll also talk about hurricane climatology and how climate change is expected to influence hurricanes in the future.

Dr. Jason Naylor is an Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville. His expertise is in atmospheric science with an emphasis on severe weather phenomena. His research includes investigating the processes that control the formation and intensity of tornadoes, studying the internal structure of intense hurricanes, and examining how large cities influence severe thunderstorms.

As always, Scientific Proofs is a free event open to the public.
