Pay By Day Camp FAQs

Pay By Day Camp FAQs

Registration/ Refunds

Space is limited, and advance payment is required for all camps.

Pay By Day camp sessions are non-refundable but may be transferred to a different day of camp pending session availability. Notify Kentucky Science Center of the new session date by one week prior to the start of your existing session

We are committed to providing a safe environment for all campers. We keep parents/guardians informed of all situations and do our best to work out difficulties if they arise. If a camper continues to have difficulty adapting to the camp program, we reserve the right to cancel that individual’s camp session without a refund.

Kentucky Science Center reserves the right to cancel sessions due to insufficient enrollment, in which case a full refund will be issued.

What types of camps does the Kentucky Science Center offer?

We offer a variety of camps, including single-day School’s Out Science Camps, week-long Summer Science Camps for PreK–8th grade, and special teen programs such as TECHnique Week with STEAM activities.

What age groups are your camps for?

Our science camps are designed for children ages 4 to 14. We offer age-specific programs to ensure each child gets the most out of their camp experience. You can find more information on the specific age ranges for each camp on our registration page.

What are the daily camp hours?

Typical camp hours are:

Drop-off: 8:30 – 9:30 AM

Camp Activities: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Pick-up: 3:30 – 4:30 PM

Aftercare is available for a nominal additional fee.

Is there a discount for multiple children and/or camps?

We currently do not offer a discount for multiple children or multiple camp enrollments; however, we do offer discounts for Kentucky Science Center Members. Kentucky Science Center Members receive a $10 discount per camp day.

How do I register for a camp?

Registration is easy! Simply visit our camp registration page, choose the camp you’d like to register for, and complete the online registration form. Be sure to check for any early bird discounts or deadlines!

Can I register my camper for a camp that is not in their age range?

The level of content and types of activities that will be completed in each camp are designed specifically with the listed age range in mind. Therefore, we do request that you only register your camper for a camp that is in their respective age range.

Are the camps indoors or outdoors?

Our camps include a mix of both indoor and outdoor activities. Some camps focus on indoor scientific experiments, while others take kids outdoors for nature exploration or field trips. Specific details will be provided in your camp’s description.

Is the content for each Pay by Day session the same?

All Pay by Day sessions are designed so that campers can attend them all and not experience the same content twice. Campers will have new activities, new exhibits, and new film/demo opportunities on each session that they attend.

Is there nap time?

There will be a rest time for Pre-K/K camps. It is 30 minutes long. The lights are dimmed, and campers may sleep or read quietly. Mats are provided and will be disinfected before and after each use.

What do campers do during the registration and pick-up windows?

Time during our registration and pick-up windows will be spent in the classroom doing open play building with LEGOs, crafting, playing board/card games, and/or watching age-appropriate shows/movies.

Can I register my child for more than one camp?

Yes! Many children enjoy participating in multiple camps throughout the summer. You can register your child for as many camps as you like, and we encourage you to explore our full range of programs.

Can parents visit during camp sessions?

For the safety and focus of all campers, we do not allow parents to visit during camp hours. However, there are opportunities for parents to attend end-of-session showcases, where campers can present what they’ve learned and created. Please check the specific camp details for more information.

What are the safety measures in place at the camps?

Safety is our top priority. Our camp counselors are trained in first aid and CPR. We also have a low camper-to-counselor ratio to ensure individual attention and safety. All activities are closely supervised, and safety protocols are followed for both indoor and outdoor activities.

What is the camp cancellation and refund policy?

If you need to cancel your child’s camp registration, we offer full refunds if the cancellation is made at least two weeks before the camp starts. For cancellations made closer to the start date, we may offer a partial refund depending on the timing. Please refer to our full refund policy for more details.

Medical Information

All parents/guardians must complete the Pay By Day Camps Health and Permission form upon registering online. On this form there is a section for parents/guardians to write down any health, learning, or behavioral conditions in which the Kentucky Science Center should be made aware. This information is meant to help each camper have the best possible experience.

If your camper requires an Epi-pen or inhaler we will ask you to provide a labeled Epi-pen or inhaler for the week. You will also be asked to fill out our Emergency Action Plan form at registration. Please note that we do not administer any other medication. In the event of an emergency, we will contact 911 and then the guardians listed on the Health and Permission form.

If your camper requires medication throughout the day, they must be able to self-administer their medication, or a parent/guardian will need to come in to administer this medication. If your camper will be self-administering medication, it must come in a labeled container that is stored in their lunchbox/backpack. You will also be asked to fill out our Emergency Action Plan form at registration.
