2014 OFF-SITE Summer Camps

The Kentucky Science Center’s newest platform is designed to expand STEM education and programming to locations throughout the state of Kentucky. The Science Center is excited to offer a week-long camp for students in Fayette, Oldham, and Scott Counties.

School’s Out Science Camps offer exciting educational experiences for children in grades K-5 during the summer. Join us for unique topics that are designed to inform, engage and entertain budding scientists.

Get a behind the scenes, hands-on look at one of the largest film experiences around! Each day we will watch a movie in our 4-story digital theater and learn the science behind the topic.

MEDICAL MYSTERIES (WEEKS 1 & 5)
Discover medical advances that explain the occurrence of twins, bionic body parts and why surgeons really play video games before an operation. Then “scrub in” for a cow eye dissection.

SPORTS SCIENCE (WEEKS 2 & 6)
From Allstars to beginners, this sports filled camp will be a slam dunk! Why does air pressure change the bounce of a basketball? What is the best way to recover from an injury? Attend this camp and you?ll be ready to go for the season!

MUSEUM SCIENCE (WEEKS 3 & 7)
Come experience all that Museum Row has to offer. Get a taste of the culture, science, art, and history just a step away from our front door as we take a boat ride on the Belle of Louisville, create our own artwork at Kentucky Museum of Arts and Craft and more! *Please note some portions of this camp may take place offsite.

AMUSEMENT PARK PHYSICS (WEEKS 4 & 8)

COOKING CHEMISTRY (WEEKS 1 & 5)
Step into the kitchen with us and learn how important chemistry and mathematics are as we test our hands in the art of cooking. You will ‘try something new’ when Whole Foods comes to visit and learn how to bake bread from scratch with The Food Literacy Project. *This class is not recommended for children with food allergies or food sensitivities. Please note portions of this camp may take place offsite.

LEADERSHIP CAMP (WEEKS 2 & 6)
This camp is all about taking our emerging young scientists and molding them into leaders. Cooperation and teamwork are the name of the game as you complete many of our popular leadership activities.

ART EVOLUTION (WEEKS 3 & 7)
From sculptures to gardens, let your inner artist and naturalist shine through. Create various forms of art from natural materials, discover patterns and colors of nature, and learn how people used art as a form of record keeping.

LEGO® MINDSTORM® ROBOTICS (WEEKS 4, 8, & 9)
Learn about engineering, mathematics, design and problem solving methods in this hands-on robotics camp.

GRADES 7-8 *Full-Day Camp (AGES 12-13)

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE (WEEK 2)
Step outside as we study urban and rural environments. We will visit The Parklands of Floyds Fork and Bernheim Forest’s Wilson?s Creek Restoration site.

WIRED BY DESIGN (WEEK 5)
This isn’t your everyday science camp. This ladies only science camp will get you wired to the max as you create Programmable Plushes, MaKey MaKeys and so much more! *Please note some portions of this camp may take place offsite.

FORENSICS (WEEK 7)
Do you have a keen eye for details? Do you like to solve a mystery? If so, we have the camp for you! Become an investigator as you utilize the scientific method. Use investigative techniques like dusting for fingerprints, creating cast molds, and collecting your own DNA. * Please note this camp will discuss real life issues such as crime and death.

CAMP PANEM (WEEK 9)
Do you have what it takes to survive the reaping? Test your skills, build alliances and compete for survival in this fun and interactive camp. May the odds be forever in your favor! Campers are encouraged to bring canned foods to donate to Dare to Care.
